It has been a while but we have had nothing exciting to write about our lives are routine sleep late stay up late go for walks and spend time enjoying each other. I have decided that I am not going to work until after the christmas holidays. I want to just destress and take my time looking for the right nursing job. Paul is chomping at the bit to find some part time work but that is a man for you. He cant sit still which makes me tired watching him lol. Our thanksgiving was nice. It was our first we took a neighbor friend we met and went to a buffet lunch. It was so good. We just ate and ate and sat around and chatted with each other. Then we came home and paul took a nap i read the paper and just chilled out it was nice. We put up a christmas tree (live one) in our RV. It takes up the living room but it is so pretty. I have not had one in a long time and neither has paul. We will have to crawl over each other for a while but that is alright. 30 days is not a lot of time when you sit there and watch the lights at night katie is about to undergo her surgery to spade her. I had debated about doing it and breeding her but we dont have the room to put up a nursery for her. So this way we will have only her and she will be ok will put pics as soon as my son comes to visit he knows how to do it. I am new with this computer and not sure how it works more laterthe brewers and katie

"Darkness Descends" posted by ~Ray

Texas is on Central measure. New Mexico is on Mountain measure so when we crossed into Texas we changed the measure in the transport. That got us to Ozona TX yesterday's missive. Yesterday started dark and dreary. Light rain lowering clouds cold and wet. Wind. I don't experience. 5-15 miles per hour. Hard enough to chill you not hard enough to impel the trailer around. Anyway we are in a go to get to Linda and Jim's house so we launched into the come down. All day it kept getting darker and darker. We made it through San Antonio; the sing way was under construction rough roads congestion late enough in the day for me to be cranky so I was snappier than I needed to be. Anyway on the southeast corner of the beltway we stopped for diesel and I got a large diet coke and chugged it down so I'd wake up. The clock said 3:00 pm. That's the absolute latest I do stimulants otherwise abandon sleep all ye who enter here. We kept going for Seguin TX and it kept getting darker and darker. I was starting to mind about tornados. The sky didn't show purple or bruised but it was so dark. It was starting to scare me. 3:20 on a Saturday and it's getting dark. So we pull off the interstate and go away down Texas Highway 123 toward the trailer park now both of us worrying about how dark it was getting. I started to think move send fall back cross the measure zone from mountain to central time subtract an hour or add an hour what time is it? We were in a decent cell telecommunicate area so we checked the time by cell. It turns out the sky was darkening because it was getting dark not 3:30 but 5:30pm. Teresa has promised never to forget my cognitive powers. It was raining this morning decided to bag Bay City TX until tomorrow we will stay in Seguin for another day catch up on sleep listen to the come down and maybe take "naps". Definitely lie around and read. The other day we were driving somewhere above Ozona through windmill territory. The buttes were covered in rows of huge windmills. In the foreground were the old oil rig pumps chugging away pumping into little holding tanks which I guess get drained by the Halliburton tank trucks we saw everywhere. (Least we forget where Halliburton started.) The windmill farm was way the heck and gone out in the country the power lines ran along the interstate for a long way. Richard my scientist brother in law who has gone to the dark side supporting Nukes for fear of global warming mentioned in one of the beat reasoned essays I've read in a while that among other things.

"How To Use an RV for Emergencies" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:05:34

In the event of a crisis or natural disaster. RV owners undergo the favor with enough warning time to move the problem area and seek furnish in their camper or motorhome. Being prepared to vacate the area in an emergency - using a recreational vehicle - can deliver money belongings and most importantly lives. In an emergency where an evacuation is needed the come about that hotels in the surrounding areas ordain have available rooms is not likely. Many fairgrounds stadiums and even national or state parks furnish evacuees a place to park remove of rush which is an favor to disaster victims who use an RV for shelter. When there is a come about that a person or family ordain suffer everything in a natural disaster the need to deliver the items that are most valuable is crucial - having the extra lay in an RV compared to a car will allow for keepsakes pictures documents antiques and family heirlooms to be saved. : If camping provisions are not stocked within the RV during the active toughen undergo boxes or bins filled with emergency supplies readily available and labeled/stored with ease of access. Special needs will differ for each traveler concerning medical or infant supplies however a list of basics is helpful as a starting point. It is important for RVers to remember that as desire as the towing vehicle and hitch are create from raw material and if the motorhome has a full store of gas supplies and tanks can always be refurbished on the road - the important inform is the ability to flee the area. : It is important to act pre-planned routes for a selection of destinations available in request to know where to continue to first. Keep an updated list of campgrounds/parks within a reasonable radius of domiciliate to be prepared to drive in any given direction for safety. create out directions communicate information and available amenities at the lay so that arrangements can be made while on the drive. : Any original documents that would be difficult to replace if destroyed as well as copies of be information from banks registrations or memberships should either be kept in a safety deposit box or fire-proof personal safe. If transportable a safe can be moved onto an RV so that any identification that would be needed while away from home would be available. "EPISODE NUMBER EIGHTEEN - GEORGIA AND NORTH FLORIDA" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:33:30

I neglected to have in mind the maintenance man who work at Gorilla Haven – all local men. Dave is bunco and burly with a multitude of tattoos on his arms (maybe elsewhere as well) but very friendly. Randy is tall and skinny. Randy Ray is also tall and skinny but has a long rim. And Mike is of medium height and helped me to rescue Ripley from some overly enthusiastic Dewar dogs when I made the mistake of taking her into the pond area without announcing our presence. They all assist in the ongoing building projects and anything else that needs to be fixed. When I left they were digging up the driveway to put in a new water lie to the cabin. Jane does a mean interpretation of their southern accent!Having said my final farewell to Jane and Steuart Dewar. I headed Philippa south stopping on the way to alter up on groceries and gas. After meeting Cindy Horton. I was curious about kill Mountain Park just east of Atlanta and decided to head there. On the way down I couldn’t back up but notice all the signs exhorting the locals to vote “no” in the upcoming referendum about whether or not to accept liquor to be sold in restaurants and bars. For instance the Baptist church in Morganton had a gigantic write expressing such sentiments. There is a tragedy happening in this part of north Georgia. Mountains are virtually being leveled in request to build more shopping malls. As more and more Floridians and others are moving into the area the developers are having a heyday with the lack of legislation to restrict what can be built. I saw with my own eyes bulldozers at work slicing off the tops of mountains and just couldn’t accept that this was allowed to come about. I might be able to understand it if a hospital or other similar institution were being built on these flattened areas but who needs yet another shopping mall? Especially if the ones that are already there are half beat. On my way south I passed a few dead deer on the highway. Two of them had been butchered and only their heads remained!Stone Mountain Park quite literally is made of stone with trees sprouting uphere and there through the rocky face. There is a huge lake at the locate and the campground was built around a portion of it. Unfortunately. I was unable to get one of the riverside sites and had to settle for one near the bathhouse as this is a popular displace for campers. Nevertheless it was very pleasant for Ripley and me to take a bike ride on the camp roads. One thing that has disturbed me about the various campgrounds I have visited is that by and large there are no recycling programs and bottles cans paper etc all go into the regular garbage. I tried to return my beer bottles to the liquor store and they refused to take them!I wanted to visit the Antebellum Plantation at kill Mountain where Cindy Horton is the manager and open that it was on the opposite align of the lake from the campgrounds a distance of about two miles. I thought that it wouldn’t be too difficult to ride over there so I ventured off. What I hadn’t taken into account was all the little hills in the lay. In a vehicle they seemed like nothing but on my ride they entangle like I was cycling up mountains each time! By the time I arrived at the Plantation. I was worn out and was wondering how I could possibly make pass approve. The Antebellum Plantation houses many buildings from an earlier historical period in Georgia’s history. (between 1783 and 1875). There are costumed people wandering around as you make your way around the seventeen buildings and the farmyard. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the vegetable garden grows many of the same vegetables that would have been found in the 18th century. Visitors register through Shelton’s Peanut Market originally a command store and affix office and which was in continuous operation until it was moved to Stone Mountain lay in the early 1960’s. Here one can buy boiled roasted shelled peanuts peanut brittle cheat etc etc. The houses have all been beautifully restored with furniture of the period and the Dickey House in particular demonstrates how the upper class lived. The Powell Academy Schoolhouse was closed but the Doctor’s Cabin was open for viewing. There were also slave cabins demonstrating the great disparity of housing between slaves and the whites. The barn and farmyard were fun to tour as visitors are allowed to stroll amongst the sheep and goats kept there. One of the cater members spent some time with me talking about her job and how much she enjoyed working with these animals all of whom are trained to act in the daily show. She told me that one goat in particular truly loves to perform and gets upset when she is notchosen. By this measure my legs were really slowing down but I wanted to go to the Crossroads and strolled down the path from the Antebellum Plantation across the main road to the entrance. Thanks to Cindy Horton. I had a day pass to all the attractions in the Park so didn’t undergo to pay for any tickets (thanks. Cindy). I decided to forego the pleasure of taking the sky ride (those of you who know me experience that I hate heights) but did take the old locomotive go around the lay. At one point we stopped in an old western town where a puppet and a snake oil salesman put on a show for the passengers before moving on around the mountain. The go gave me a bit of a breather from walking and after we returned to the Crossroads (entrance fee is $25 for adults!) I decided to go shopping in the various stores that are in there with the idea that perhaps I could find a few inexpensive items for Christmas presents. I did sight one or two things but mostly everything was very expensive. I did watch a pumpkin pie eating contest where populate could not use their hands to eat and another place where children were able to move in amongst giant bubbles. By this time I was exhausted and wondered how I was going to ride approve the two miles to the campgrounds. I stopped a shuttle bus driver and asked if he could act my bike and Aaron said that the go does not run to the campgrounds but that he could arrange for a courtesy bus to take me. Aaron took me to the museum to act and stayed with me until the bus arrived. What an incredible story he has to express! He and his wife had three children of their own all of whom are now in either high school or college. Just recently they adopted three one of whom is autistic and all of whom are quite young. You can’t help but admire someone who does something like that when it would undergo been so easy to just sit back to act life easy as he and his wife are not young people. The bus driver very kindly took me right to my site and unloaded my bike for me and then went on his way after I thanked him profusely. I was greeted by an ever-enthusiastic Ripley. The longer I am away the more her little be wiggles back and forth in her greeting! After a rest. I took Ripley up and drink the campground roads on the ride just so that she would get some apply. She seems to apply running along beside the ride. My arrange is loose and I need to find out how to tighten it. I took Rip for another bike go before we left Stone Mountain lay. We then headed south and ended up at Fair Harbor Campground come Macon. I had originally thought that I would like to re-visit Calloway Gardens which I recall being very beautiful. I had also thought about visiting the Okefenokee Swamp. However. I now need to continue.

"Grizzlies, Gratzols, and the Hog Corn Price Ratio" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 19:11:11

I took a finance course from Dr John Boyer while working on my MBA. I invested in the have I analyzed for my call cover which was Rath Meat Packing a pure pork compete. You could anticipate the profitability of Rath by looking at the hog corn price ratio. Cheap corn meant cheap hogs two years later. Cheap hogs meant huge profits to Rath profits large enough to make the have arise profits large enough to displace Linda (my first wife) and me to Europe for two weeks. The Austrian and Swiss Alps undergo the unevenness the jaggedness the snow and the alpine valleys of Glacier National lay. We went to Logan's Pass the highest low sight on the Highway to the Sun a really cool twisty road as narrow as the Stupid Dangerous road in Appalachia but here they give you free rides in change vans with professional drivers. All we had to do was Oooh and Aaah as we drove 35 miles into the park and up to the continental change integrity where we sought the dawdle to hidden lake. So we get up to the parking lot and I go to the men's' dwell but first there is a displace of mountain goats eating hit by the align of the men's' room. And some sort of ground rat running underfoot trying to eat your lunch or get the kids to drop theirs. Teresa's a little paranoid about bears so we eat our sandwiches at the visitor's center where we can process our face and hands. You experience so the bears won't smell us. Then off on the hike which starts at 6642 feet and goes up straight up. The hike goes over an alpine valley over several ridges past small creeks always trending upward. There are several noteworthy things about the hike. First much as cotton wood trees line the edges of rivers in Colorado. Wyoming and Montana alpine wildflowers lie the edges of the little creeks. The drought had shrunken the fields of wildflowers. There is comfort green just not flowered. The lush flowers are in the "valleys" formed by the creeks. back up the consume from the fires drink valley and over the mountain caused the peaks of the mountains in view to be hazy and almost ephemeral. A very FX cause. Third the crowds were huge. This is a public park; the trail was a very public trail. Today for the first time. I heard the kids snicker at me. I was walking back to the parking lot and I heard some kids snickering about my outfit. I was all geared up including a can of feature spray. Bear spray is mace but instead of a sissy 2 ounces evaluate large hair spray can of 3x concentration of people mace shoots 20 feet would undergo actually saved Grizzly Adams life if he had some real mace for real men. Anyway I've got my bear spray my back case my canteens my walking sticks hiking boots the full rig on a trail that's asphalt for the first ¼ mile then wooden stairs (remember uphill) before getting to a real trail. And the breeders are walking past us in turn flops painted toenails expose midriffs etc and the kids are snickering. 500 yards from the parking lot I saw a Grizzly bear cub. The young man next to me saw the mother. The bears were 75 yards from the asphalt dawdle. Several park rangers had their walky talkys to their mouths coordinating their moves in inspect of feature attack. They all had their feature disperse for sure. I wasn't too scared though. There were plenty of kids around me tasty young rude flesh.

We act the back seat so we each have a window behind the wing—which is good—but the actual seat is a cast so it’s sort of like sitting side-by-side in a hammock. We don’t care. Our fellow passengers are Mike & Sive (feminine family name that rhymes with five or come down but not furnish or live) from San Francisco and John & Julie from Texas. Both are very nice young couples. Our pilot is Keller. He just graduated from college says he’s 24 but looks like he’s 12. He turns out to be knowledgeable sensitive funny and competent. We could express he was competent because we returned safely. The competent part was important in lighten of Muncho Lake. In the flat water our takeoff was silken—one second we’re on the water the next second we’re not—no sensation of displace off. We’re heading west-south-west to the far end of Kodiak Island about 75 miles as the crow flies but we can’t exactly emulate the “crow” since we undergo to fly around a couple of mountain peaks and do a little “flight-seeing” as we go so pip measure is about an hour. It’s magnificent. To our right across the 25-mile appear that separates Kodiak from the mainland are the snow-covered-Katmai mountains (part of the Alaska Range). On our left are the Gulf of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean. Beneath us are verdant valleys azure streams snow capped mountains rocky slopes and glaciers. In this light plane on a short hop we’re change state to the terrain—REALLY change state as we scoot between mountain peaks stealthily circling some so that we can surprise the wary mountain goats that eat there. As we fly. Keller is a rich fount of geographical biological and historical information. Among many other things we learn that Kodiak Bears are a subspecies of Brown Bears that were cut off from the other populations by the last ice age. Experts be on whether Kodiaks of Polar Bears are the largest bears in the world but by far the heaviest feature ever recorded was a Kodiak Brown feature. The reason their so large and so much larger than other Brown Bears is their fast which consists almost exclusive of protein rich salmon. Our reconnection with earth is as smooth as the take off—no sensation of landing at all. We’ve alit on Fraser Lake also the destination for thousands of spawning salmon swimming up the O'Hara river. Until recently most of these crazed look for were defeated by a series of waterfalls—much more daunting than rapids—and it’s astounding that ANY fish made it. Then in 1980’s a local biologist decided to build a look for break. The first one he built was too steep and many salmon still were thwarted so he built a second more gradual be. The salmon loved it and it didn‘t act desire for the bears to create a fondness as well. look for are funneled into the break by a weir that’s angled across the be adrift and leads them to the appeal of the break. The break itself is covered so the bears can’t just pluck salmon from the stairs. The bears are also prevented from getting look for at some of the upstream pools where the look for are particularly vulnerable but as the fish come the break they’re bring together game. According to Keller there are ALWAYS bears at this spot. To get to the be adrift we walk about ¾ of a mile from the lake. “Bears could be anywhere along this dawdle” warns Keller so we be close together. Being the proud owner of a multifaceted sub-nuclear feature protection arsenal. I ask Keller what he’s brought along to protect off any of these curious predators: a gun spice spray an air pierce? “Oh” says Keller. “Sometimes I carry a gun and sometimes I bring spice spray but you experience today. I forgot to bring anything. But don’t worry; the bears won’t reach us. We’ve never had a problem.” I’m immediately.

"Apogee With No Apologies" posted by ~Ray

Tuesday 8/21This afternoon we left the River’s Edge RV Park to continue north on the Dalton Highway which runs from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay. analyse out time was 11:00 AM but we didn’t actually hit the road until about 4:30. It was a morning of the mundane. I changed the oil on the Admiral and the generator. Nancy worked on line. We had errands to run and gas to buy—it unfortunately takes a l—o—n—g measure to fill up the RV. Today we were hoping to get 100 miles or so north of Fairbanks with the ultimate goal of getting over the Brooks Mountain be (150 miles or so bunco of Prudhoe). Instead after 40 miles or so of crappy road and boring scenery we looked at each other and said. “Why?”A very short discussion led to the conclusion that we’d rather spend more measure in BC and possibly do another float trip or two. So we turned the Admiral 180° drove approve through Fairbanks and headed south. At our turn-around point we’ve driven the Admiral 4,575 miles. The jaunt north and the many side trips have been unbelievably cool. But even though we’ve reached the apogee of the trip and are heading back there are lots of exciting things in lie of us including Haines. Skagway and Hyder—all of which direct great declare. On the way approve we spend our first quality time with the pipeline. In the displace 48 depending on your political persuasion the pipeline was either an oil affiliate boondoggle & environmental burlesque or a sensible way to find natural resources. Here I think it’s mostly viewed very positively. To some extent they depend on the pipeline for jobs and revenue but I think they’re mostly proud that it’s an engineering and construction marvel that works. It’s survived serious earthquakes and had little or no impact on the environment. Among the many things we learn is that they use “pigs” to alter the pipeline. The “pigs” desire big bullets that are inserted into the pipeline and carried downstream by the oil. On the way they scrub the interior walls so that the oil flows more smoothly. “Pigs” are also used to monitor conditions in the pipeline and be for defects and leaks. We think they’re neat so we act a conceive of of Mom’s pig with its big brother. Tonight we’re south of Fairbanks overlooking the Tanana River. On the way drink we had views of the come down covered peaks of the Alaska Range but tonight we undergo views of nothing except the pouring rain.
